Have you ever felt lonely in your stroke recovery journey? Have you thought about looking for a support group but you don’t know if it will be enjoyable or if you’ll be able to get to it safely? Do you wish you had someone to talk to during the day who understood what you were going through?

The therapists at Imago Rehab heard comments like these every week from our clients and saw a need for community support for all stroke survivors, including our clients. What was our solution, you ask? A biweekly community support group for ANY and ALL individuals living with the effects of chronic stroke or neurological injury. Join us and become a part of the Imago Rehab community and a part of the change happening in stroke recovery!

What is Community Group all about?

Imago Rehab’s Community Group offers a fun and informative option to supplement your stroke recovery. Participating in our group is a great way to come together with people experiencing similar circumstances. Our groups consist of casual conversation, coping skill training, discussions about common experiences and frustrations after stroke, fun brain games, and more! The goal is continue to grow our community and provide another resources for the entire stroke community. We create a safe environment for everyone to participate no matter what their communication skills and no matter what they need to talk about that day. This group is for YOU and the stroke community. Below are some examples of group topics and activities we have explored.

Skills Training: Progressive muscle relaxation, body scanning, radical acceptance, meditation, and deep breathing exercises

Fun stuff: Scattagories, brain games, group discussions

OT “tools” giveaway: With each community group, we offer a raffle with all different therapy equipment for home! One lucky winner receives a useful therapy tool such as thera-putty, a vibrating massager for sensory re-education, built-up handles for your toothbrush, and other items to make your recovery more successful.
